A closer examination of leaked internal code may have also teased a future change for the iPad mini, with the iPad mini 8 rumored to get the A20 Pro chip.
There have been a plethora of leaks in early December stemming from an internal pre-release build of iOS 26. Despite the amount of information that has already emerged, it seems there are still more details being uncovered from the code leak.
Chinese leaker Kang and others have provided their own compilations of leaked details to Weibo, covering chips to be used in future models. While there are other earlier leaks mentioned, Kang also interestingly brings up the iPad mini.
According to the leaker, the code says the iPad mini 8 will use the A20 Pro chip, and is codenamed J510 and J511. That should be the same chip that will be used in the Pro models of the iPhone 18, due in the fall.
This would be an upgrade from an earlier and similar code leak from August, which indicated the iPad mini 8 would use the A19 Pro. The codenames also line up with the earlier rumor.
There have been relatively few rumors about the iPad mini, but it has also been claimed to be upgraded to an OLED display. A launch of the model is expected in late 2026.
Kang is a quite prominent leaker in China, with a good reputation when it comes to leak accuracy. Indeed, in 2021, Kang and other China leakers were sent letters by Apple, warning of legal action if they didn't stop sharing details about future products.
