Apple Home Update Deadline Pushed to February 2026

Users still running the old HomeKit framework now have a few extra months to update to the new Apple Home architecture. Here’s what you need to know.

A few years ago, Apple introduced a new, more reliable version of the architecture that powers HomeKit. At the time, the company said that support for the previous version of Apple Home would “end in the fall of 2025”.

Today, as spotted by MacRumors, Apple has revised the Update Apple Home support page with a new deadline:

Support for the previous version of Apple Home will end on February 10, 2026.

In practice, this means that Apple will continue to support both architectures until then, but after that, users who don’t update to the new architecture may experience problems when trying to control their connected accessories.

Updating the Home app

Before updating, make sure that your devices are running the latest software, as the new Home architecture is only compatible with iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, macOS 13.1, tvOS 16.2, or watchOS 9.2 or later.

Then, here’s what to do:

  1. Open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  2. Tap or click the More button.
  3. Select Home Settings. If you own multiple homes, choose one, then select Home Settings.
  4. Select Software Update.
  5. Tap or click Update Now, then follow the prompts.

It’s worth noting that, per Apple’s disclaimer, “all of the homes that you own are updated at the same time.”
