iPhone Dominates Top 10 Smartphones List for Q2 2024

The iPhone is continuing to dominate the list of the top smartphone sales in the second quarter, but the overall position has weakened slightly compared to Q2 2023.

In the second quarter, Apple and Samsung usually occupy most of the spots in Counterpoint's list of the top ten smartphones sold in the world. For Q2 2024, the list continues to have Apple as the top choice once again.

The list, generated by Counterpoint's Global Monthly Handset Model Sales Tracker and seen by AppleInsider, has the iPhone 15 as having the biggest share, at 4.1%, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max second with 3.7% and the iPhone 15 Pro third with 3.1%.

This mirrors the results of Q2 2023, when the then-top iPhones, the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, and the iPhone 14 Pro, occupied the same spots. There is a small difference from then, as each model has seen their shares decrease by 0.1%.

According to Counterpoint, the changes mean the product mix for iPhone is slowly shifting towards higher-end models.

One thing that did definitely change in the list was the position of the previous generation's standard iPhone model.

In Q2 2023, the iPhone 13 secured fourth place with a 2.6% share. However, in Q2 2024, the iPhone 14 reached only sixth place with 1.6%, beaten by the Samsung Galaxy A15 4G in fifth (1.8%) and A15 5G in fourth (2.0%) on the list.

The rest of the Q2 2024 list is rounded out by the Samsung Galaxy A55 in seventh (1.5%), the Xiaomi Redmi 13C 4G in eighth (1.5%), the Galaxy S24 Ultra in ninth (1.4%) and the Galaxy A05 in tenth (1.4%).

Despite being top of the block, the news follows a report from July 17 that the iPhone 15 lineup continues to post underwhelming sales. In the latest quarter, the iPhone 15 models accounted for 67% of total iPhone sales, down from the iPhone 14 generation's 79% at the same time last year.
