Apple’s giant glass cube in New York City is about to come crashing down.

The iPhone-maker’s most iconic retail store is set for major renovations this year, and according to a new filing, the glass cube is scheduled to be dismantled and removed.

Apple was rewarded a remodeling permit by NYC that allows for the “full removal of glass cubical structure at Apple store entrance.” The permit first spotted by MacRumors reveals the total price tag could cost Apple $2 million.

Work on taking apart the cube could commence as soon as May 9th. Apple plans to double the size of the flagship NYC by expanding the retail space from 32,000 square-feet to 77,000 square feet.

This is the second time Apple has had to remove the cube. In 2011 the company replaced the old cube with a more seamless design. It’s unclear if Apple plans to permanently remove the cube or if the change is just construction-related. Given it’s one of the most photographed structures in NYC it’d be crazy for the cube to be gone for good.
