Apple Issues First Release Candidate Beta of MacOS 12.2

Apple has seeded a Release Candidate build of macOS Monterey 12.2 to developer beta testers.

The newest builds can be downloaded via the Apple Developer Center for those enrolled in the test program, or via an over-the-air update on devices running the beta software. Public betas typically arrive within a few days of the developer versions, via the Apple Beta Software Program website.

The second build of macOS 12.2 was seeded on January 11, 2022, while the first landed on December 16, 2021. Apple publicly released macOS 12.1 on December 13.

One of the changes spotted in the betas so far relates to Apple Music, with the first build including a version of the app using AppKit instead of web views. The fully-native application should provide a faster and more fluid experience than the current version.

AppleInsider, and Apple itself, strongly advise users avoid installing the betas on to "mission-critical" or primary devices, as there is the remote possibility of data loss or other issues. Instead, testers should install betas onto secondary or non-essential devices, and to make sure there are sufficient backups of important data before updating.
