Rumors indicate Apple will launch its first ever foldable iPhone next year, and a new leak has revealed what to expect from the new model’s battery capacity.
Apple testing biggest iPhone battery ever for iPhone Fold
Leak aggregator yeux1122 posted recently about the battery capacity currently being tested for the iPhone Fold. Here’s an excerpt translated into English:
Higher capacity than the 17 Max is currently confirmed. Testing is currently underway at around 5400-5800 mAh.
The post notes that iPhone Air was initially tested in a range that maxed out at 3000 mAh, but the final product was closer to 3149.
It’s very possible, then, that the iPhone Fold could hit or get close to 6000 mAh.
For comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro Max currently has the largest battery ever in an iPhone. But even in its eSIM-only version, it’s just past the 5000 mAh mark.
Of course, the iPhone Fold has the challenge of powering an overall larger display.
The latest rumors indicate iPhone Fold’s inner display will measure about 7.58 inches—up from the 6.9 inches of iPhone 17 Pro Max. Heavy use of the larger screen could drain battery faster.
Then again, the outer display will only be about 5.38 inches. Thus, it should draw a lot less power when used in that way.
9to5Mac’s Take
It‘s still too early to say with much certainty whether the iPhone Fold will be able to deliver battery life about on par with the iPhone 17 Pro Max—or perhaps even better. Rumors also indicate Apple plans to pack the iPhone 18 Pro Max with an even bigger battery than its predecessor.
But this report is an encouraging sign. I suspect that after battery concerns plagued the iPhone Air this year, Apple will want the iPhone Fold’s battery to be just as good as the Pro models. If users are going to pay upwards of $2,000 for an iPhone, it really needs top-tier battery life.
