Apple's push into OLED for every device continues with iPad mini getting significant updates in 2026, iPad Air moving to OLED in 2027, and finally, MacBook Air getting the display sometime after 2028.

Technology tends to trickle down from top-end products to the rest of the lineup eventually. The time has finally come for OLED to make its way to the rest of Apple's products, but it'll still take some time.

According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is prepping OLED displays for several of its products. The report focuses on its more budget-focused lines, but OLED is coming to nearly every product in the next few years.

First up is a rumored water-resistant iPad mini, codenamed J510. Apple is expected to use a new speaker system that would use vibration-related technology that could enable Apple to remove speaker holes.

While increasing water resistance in the small design would be essential, especially when competing against e-readers, the biggest upgrade will be to the display. The iPad mini is expected to be the first non-pro iPad to get OLED in the lineup in early 2026.

However, the next iPad Air, expected in the spring of 2026, will still have LCD. Apple won't have an OLED model ready until the next generation of iPad Air, which would launch in 2027 at the earliest.

The MacBook Pro is rumored to be the first Mac with an OLED display, but Apple's work won't stop there. The MacBook Air is expected to get OLED as well, but not before 2028.

There is no word on when Apple will bring OLED to its most affordable iPad model. It is likely that will be at a much later date, since price is that tablet's most important feature.

OLED iPad mini is up next

OLED is a far superior display technology to LCD, and Apple has seemingly solved for its issues with burn-in via software fixes. So, users can expect these new products to have excellent color reproduction, infinite blacks, and decent brightness.

The iPad mini doesn't have a usual update cycle, but a refresh in early 2026 isn't out of the question. The iPad mini 5 was released four years after the previous model, then it was two years to the sixth-generation, then another three years to the seventh.
