Apple Still Has Some Unannounced iOS 26 Features in the Pipeline: Report

According to the Power On newsletter from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple still has a few more iOS 26 features in the pipeline. These features weren’t announced at WWDC, though they were heavily rumored, and they should still arrive in the coming months.

The two unannounced features are live translation via AirPods, as well as syncing captive Wi-Fi connections across your entire Apple ecosystem. The former feature would’ve allowed you to have live conversations with someone else in a different language, and hear it translated in real time via AirPods. This would’ve been similar to other live translation features announced for iOS 26.

The latter would’ve made public Wi-Fi a much easier experience, as it would’ve eliminated the need to log into public Wi-Fi portals, such as those at coffee shops and hotels, across your entire Apple ecosystem. Once you logged into one, it’d sync across them all.

Gurman reported both of these features well in advance of WWDC, however they didn’t quite arrive on the day of the keynote. He reports that this is due to the fact that Apple no longer wants to announce features months before they’re ready to ship:

  • At WWDC, Apple was careful not to announce anything that wasn’t close to shipping (either in the first version of iOS 26 or an update soon after). The company didn’t want to risk repeating WWDC 2024, where it announced several features — including some tentpole technology — that were ultimately delayed by months or have yet to arrive.

These features should both arrive this year, according to Gurman. They’ll should arrive in October’s iOS 26.1 release or December’s iOS 26.2 release, if they aren’t added during the beta cycle.
