Apple’s long-rumored AirTag 2 may be nearing launch. In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman noted that the new tracker is “nearly ready” after months of preparation. While he doesn’t expect it to debut at WWDC, a mid-2025 release — as he previously predicted — now seems likely.
So far, three key upgrades are rumored for the second-generation AirTag:
A next-gen Ultra Wideband chip, enabling up to 3× the tracking range
Integration with Vision Pro and spatial computing
A more tamper-resistant speaker to help prevent misuse for stalking
No major design changes are expected.
The original AirTag was introduced in April 2021, priced at $29 for a single unit or $99 for a four-pack in the U.S.
