The long-drawn standoff between Apple and TRAI could be coming to an end if a new report is to be believed. While the iPhone-maker won’t be allowing TRAI’s DND app on its App Store, it is reportedly developing its own app that complies with DND regulations.

The app is being developed by Apple will be rolled out to iPhone users in India before Diwali, Business Standard reports. In line with DND regulations, this app will let iPhone users report spam calls or SMS to authorities. It is to be noted that neither Apple nor any government department has commented on this report.

Despite all the reports, TRAI chairman RS Sharma has maintained that there is no standoff between the regulatory authority and Apple. Sharma claimed that these regulations are in the interest of users, and have “nothing to do with a specific company.”

TRAI has been pushing Apple to include its Do-No-Disturb app on its App Store. Google, on its part, has already included the app on its Play Store. But citing its protected ecosystem, Apple has been reluctant to allow the app on its Store. It has also been reported that iPhones could stop working on Indian networks if Apple doesn’t comply with TRAI’s advice.

In what is seen as a compromise of sorts, the latest report claims that Apple is working on its own app. Unlike the Android ecosystem, it is currently far from a straightforward process for iPhone users to report a spam message or calls. These issues are likely to be addressed on the upcoming iOS 12 update, which will be rolled out in the coming months.

It, however, remains to be seen if TRAI will accept Apple’s version of the DND app or if it continues to insist on its own app is implemented. TRAI’s DND app was launched in 2016, but has so far failed to pick up steam, even though the app is available to download on the Google Play Store for Android phones.
