Report Suggests Apple Could Begin 2018 Product Launches Next Month

Supply chain source Digitimes is out with a new report today highlighting Apple’s suppliers involvement in upcoming product launches. The site claims that Apple could begin upgrading its various product lines as early as next month, but fails to offer specific information about what products are potentially on the docket…

Digitimes, which has a sketchy track record, writes that various Apple suppliers will benefit from the company’s product refreshes this year. The report explains that suppliers plan to reap benefits beginning next month:

These makers have cutting-edge technologies or have newly tapped into the supply chains of Apple’s consumer devices. Among them, SPT, which boasts pearl bright nickel processing technology, is ready to enjoy sizeable orders from Apple, which will incorporate the technology to process adapters for its new-generation iPhone, iPad and MacBook devices, slated for debut starting in March 2018.

Apple unveiling new products in March isn’t an outlandish prediction. Last year, for instance, the company announced a new (RED) iPhone 7, a more affordable iPad, and refreshed iPhone SE storage configurations in March. While there was much speculation about the company holding a press event last March, it ultimately made the announcements via a press release.

Digitimes doesn’t offer any speculation as to what products Apple might refresh next month. Other reports have indicated that Apple has new Macs and iPads under development, as well as a new iPhone and Apple Watch lineups.

The iPad is said to gain Face ID this year, though Bloomberg noted last week that we shouldn’t expect a launch until the end of this year. Furthermore, it’s almost a guarantee that refreshed iPhones aren’t coming until this fall, as well as the new Apple Watch. Apple also doesn’t have a solid history of releasing new Macs in March, either.

It’s always important to take Digitimes reports with a hefty grain of salt. While the site does have some solid supply chain sources, it tends to misinterpret product news and that could be the case here.
