In her piece, Kahn explains that she first reached out to Cook via email when she was tasked to interview a “leader in technology” for one of her classes. Cook graciously responded and agreed to an interview.

Throughout the interview, Cook touched on several topics that we’ve heard him discuss in previous interviews. For instance, he expressed his belief that kids should learn to code “as young as in lower school.” He also explained that his objective in life is to “work for some higher purpose and make it your North Star.”

Cook also noted of some of the women he aspires in the world, including Angela Merkel, Air Force general Lori Robinson, and Rosa Parks:

He considers Angela Merkel a “phenomenal leader not only for Germany but the world.” He recently met with Lori Robinson, a four-star general in the Air Force, who struck him as an incredible and courageous woman who combines rare “unbelievable leadership in humanity and humility.”

As a southerner, Tim thought Rosa Parks was “quite the hero” who “accelerated the civil rights act by years” with her courage.

The Apple CEO also talked about his admiration for the younger generation, saying that it, more than any other generation in history, wants to improve everyone’s life:

Tim also enthusiastically admires and compliments the younger generation of people because he imagines that “this generation, more than any other in history, wants to improve everyone’s lives.”

He attributes their “greater purpose” as not being as focused on increasing wealth and making money, but rather “on doing good.”

The full interview was shared on NCWIT Aspirations in Computing website and can be found here.
