Apple is reportedly preparing a major iPad lineup refresh for the first half of 2027, with new iPad Air, iPad Pro, and entry-level iPad models expected to arrive within the same period.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter, the upcoming iPad Air could finally adopt OLED display technology, while the next iPad Pro may introduce a vapor chamber cooling system for better sustained performance.
The entry-level iPad 12 is also expected to receive a processor and connectivity upgrade.
Next iPad Air Could Feature an OLED Display
One of the biggest rumored changes is the introduction of an OLED display on the next-generation iPad Air.
Apple recently brought OLED technology to the iPad mini lineup, and the iPad Air could be the next model to receive the upgrade.
Compared with traditional LCD panels, OLED displays offer deeper blacks, richer colors, and higher contrast. The technology could make the iPad Air more appealing for watching videos, editing photos, and other visual tasks.
The next iPad Air is also expected to feature Apple's M5 chip, although its exact specifications and other hardware changes have not yet been revealed.
iPad Pro Could Get Vapor Chamber Cooling and M6 Chip
The next iPad Pro may focus more heavily on performance improvements.
Gurman expects Apple to introduce a vapor chamber cooling system in the upcoming model. This technology helps distribute heat more efficiently across a device, potentially allowing the processor to maintain higher performance during demanding tasks.
If implemented, the upgrade could benefit professional workflows such as video editing, 3D rendering, and intensive multitasking.
The next iPad Pro is also expected to move to Apple's M6 chip, potentially delivering another generation of performance improvements.
Entry-Level iPad 12 May Support Apple Intelligence
Apple is also reportedly developing a new entry-level iPad 12, with several previously rumored hardware upgrades.
Expected features include:
●A19 chip: Could bring Apple Intelligence support to Apple's entry-level iPad lineup.
●N1 wireless chip: Expected to introduce Wi-Fi 7 connectivity.
●C1X modem: May be included in cellular models for improved connectivity and power efficiency.
These upgrades could make the iPad 12 a more capable option for everyday users while bringing Apple's latest connectivity technologies to a more affordable device.
When Will the New iPads Launch?
According to Gurman, Apple plans to release the new iPad Air, iPad Pro, and entry-level iPad models in the first half of 2027.
If the reported schedule holds, Apple could introduce OLED displays across more of its tablet lineup while further differentiating the iPad Pro with improved cooling and next-generation Apple silicon.
Apple has not officially confirmed the upcoming models or their specifications. More details are expected to emerge as the launch window approaches.
