Apple has revealed more details about the iPhone Duo's inner foldable display, highlighting a complex 10-layer structure designed to improve durability, reduce bending stress, and make the display crease less noticeable.
10-Layer Display Designed for Durability
The inner display contains 10 ultrathin layers, including a custom polymer nano-textured cover layer.
Apple says the polymer is up to 40% stiffer than other materials used in the industry, potentially helping the display withstand the repeated folding and unfolding required from a foldable iPhone.
The display structure also includes high-strength glass above and below the folding panel, along with a titanium plate at the bottom.
Apple uses custom adhesives between the layers, allowing them to move slightly against each other during folding. This design helps reduce bending stress and improve the long-term durability of the display.
Nano-Texture Helps Hide the Crease
The outer nano-textured layer is designed to reduce glare and make the display crease less noticeable.
Apple has also applied a scratch-resistant coating over the nano-texture layer, providing additional protection against everyday wear.
While the crease is not completely eliminated, Apple's layered construction is intended to make it less visible during normal use.
Ceramic Shield 2 Protects the Outer Display
Apple uses different protective materials for the iPhone Duo's exterior and inner display.
The outer display is protected by Ceramic Shield 2, matching the protection used on the iPhone 18 Pro models. The rear panel uses Ceramic Shield, while the inner foldable display relies on the custom polymer cover layer.
This allows Apple to maintain stronger protection on the rigid exterior while using a more flexible material for the folding screen.
Both Displays Support ProMotion and 3,000 Nits
The iPhone Duo's two displays are also expected to offer the same premium features across both screens.
Both displays support:
●ProMotion
●Always-On display
●True Tone
●Up to 3,000 nits peak outdoor brightness
These specifications should give the iPhone Duo a high-end display experience whether users are interacting with the outer screen or the larger inner folding display.
Apple's Approach to Foldable Display Technology
The iPhone Duo's 10-layer display shows Apple's focus on solving some of the biggest challenges facing foldable smartphones, particularly durability, bending stress, glare, and visible creases.
By combining a custom polymer, high-strength glass, titanium, flexible adhesives, and a nano-textured surface, Apple is taking a multi-layer approach to making its first foldable iPhone more durable and practical for everyday use.
