Apple has just released a batch of surprise firmware updates for various accessories that you might otherwise never suspect could get new firmware, including the Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, and even an Apple power adapter.
In modern times, we’re all pretty used to our computers, smartphones, and tablets getting software updates. But whether you knew it or not, even an Apple accessory as straightforward as a power adapter can get a firmware update.
That’s exactly what’s happened today, alongside new firmware for several other popular Mac accessories.
Aaron Perris was the first to report on these releases, with a tongue-in-cheek post on X:
It is currently unknown what exactly these new firmware updates have changed for each accessory.
Presumably they improve compatibility with certain devices, or perhaps address certain other edge-case shortcomings in the products.
Most likely than not though, as a user you won’t notice anything new the next time you start typing away on a Magic Keyboard or plug in your 140W power adapter.
Firmware updates for accessories like these are designed to install automatically in the background, so if you continue using your devices as normal, they should receive the updates soon.
